A RESEARCH ON THE DETERMINATION OF THE PRESENT SITUATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT POSSIBILITIES OF THE BULBOUS CUT FLOWER GROWING IN ANTALYA
Gladiol, frezia, lilium, iris and tulip were the most grown bulbous cut flowers the production was generally performed by setting up greenhouses on the hired areas at the 44% rate. Imported bulbs used as the production material got the highest portion among the production costs with the 70-90 percentages. In this situation, most growers tried to protect bulb for a few years. But to use the same bulbs reduced the quality. On the contrary of this structure dominating on the small or middle scale holdings, the big companies approached to the bulbous cut flower growing with more technical knowledge were used for production. But the most important difficulties of this production were the bulbs, the expensive inputs, and the problems met at the transportation. The crops obtained from the bulbous cut flower growing were marketed by cooperatives at the 75,5% rate. The second important channel at the marketing was the direct sales from the growers to the florists. The sale portion of the florists in Antalya increased because the growers made their job in the quite small areas. Appraising of this small production in the same city could be possible. In the April, May and June periods, when the crops come much more the auction, the prices of the bulbous cut flowers decrease at the very important rate like the other cut flowers. On the contrary, especially in the October, November, December the prices increase to the top level.
