The sea daffodil (Pancratium maritimum L.) growing naturally in the dune areas in coasts of Mediterranean countries including Turkey is one of the members of Amaryllidaceae family. This species with decorative and fragrant flowers, which is frequently found in the beaches of Turkey, has been one of the endangered species due to increasing urbanization and tourism activities. It has a potential to be used in warm climates in the organization of coastal dunes and can be used as an ornamental plant. In addition, it can be described as a medicinal plant due to the alkaloids it contains. In this review, scientific studies on the description, spreading, genetic diversity, in vivo and in vitro propagation and the chemical composition of sea daffodil are examined. Thus, the importance of taking the species under conservation as soon as possible and developing the propagation techniques are emphasized.
