Effect of different rootstocks on the fruit quality of loquat cv. `Akko XIII`

DOI : 10.16882/derim.2019.567965 Viewed : 2605 - Downloaded : 1157 In this study, fruit quality of `Akko XIII` loquat cultivar grafted on quince, hawthorn and loquat rootstock seedlings were investigated in Serik-Kayaburnu (Antalya). Fruit weight, fruit firmness, fruit skin color, fruit/seed ratio, soluble solid content, titratable acidity, maturity index, ethylene production, respiration rate and sensory analysis were evaluated to determine the effect of rootstocks on fruit quality. Experiments were conducted in completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. According to the results, hawthorn rootstock reduced fruit weight and firmness, but increased fruit/seed ratio. The effects of quince and loquat rootstocks on these properties were better and similar to each other. The amount of total soluble solid content is higher in fruits grown on loquat rootstock, the titratable acid and the maturity index were lower in fruit grown on the hawthorn rootstock. The skin color of fruit grown on quince rootstock was more vivid (high C* value), yellow and reddish (high a* and b* values) than fruit grown on the hawthorn and loquat rootstock. As a result, fruit grown on quince and loquat rootstocks had better appearance and flavor than those of hawthorn rootstock. Keywords : Loquat; Quality; Rootstock; Quince; Hawthorn
