Podosphaera xanthii, causal agent of powdery mildew disease, leads to significant economic yield losses in the melon. The disease is effective in all melons production areas in Asia, Europe and America outside of Turkey. Although it is said to be taken under control by biological and chemical methods, a complete success cannot be achieved. Therefore, it is important to develop genetically resistant varieties. There are well known and most common three races (races 1, 2 and 5) of the pathogen. In this study, 140 melon genotypes were tested against P. xanthii' race 5 which is the most common race in Turkey and genotypic variation for disease resistance was investigated. Disease tests was performed by conventionally in the climate-controlled compartment while the plants were in the seedling stage , and the disease symptoms were evaluated on the 5th, 10th, and 15th day of the inoculation according to the 1-4 scale. The experiment was conducted with two replicates, and 6 plants in each replicate. The mean scale value of all the genotypes was found to be 2.16 for powdery mildew reaction. According to the test results, significant variations were identified among the genotypes for resistance to powdery mildew. Seventy six genotypes from the tested 140 genotypes were determined as resistant to powdery mildew.
